Woman dies in New Milford house fire

NEW MILFORD – Officials confirmed that a woman was killed on Tuesday in a house fire on Carriage Drive.

Although the woman’s name has not been released pending notification of family members, police confirmed a woman was killed after a fire broke out at a house on Carriage Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

Lt. Larry Ash, a spokesperson for the police department, said the woman who died in the fire was home alone at the time. The fire was started by a neighbor, he said.

While the outside of the house appeared to be unscathed from the blaze, according to witnesses, Ash said the interior of the house was significantly damaged as a result of the blaze.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office, Ash said, adding that there was no criminal character to the blaze.

According to land records, the house is owned by Dennis and Valerie Miller, who bought the property about 12 years ago.
