NEW MILFORD – The city’s five schools will close for two days starting Thursday after a member of the school community tested positive for COVID-19 just days after the students returned.

The New Milford School District has announced that students will resume distance education at home and teachers will also teach at home. New Milford schools held their first day of classes on Tuesday.

School officials said the decision was made after an investigation and discussion with the infected person.

They did not say whether the person who fell ill was a student or a teacher.


“The individual was asymptomatic and requested a COVID test based on the positive test result of other family members. We have not received any other reports of employees or students exhibiting symptoms or signs of illness, ”School Superintendent Paul Smotas said on Wednesday in an emailed notice to staff posted on the website. district website.

The city health department will conduct contact tracing as part of the district protocol.

“School and health department officials will contact any staff and parents / guardians of children who may have had potential for close contact,” the notice said.

The letter was co-signed by Deputy Superintendent of Schools Alisha DiCorpo.

Naugatuck High School in New Haven County said it would be fired early at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning after a senior tested positive.

Newtown said schools would not close after a person tested positive.
