New school COVID testing scheme announced by Milford Schools

[ad_1]

Information via Milford Public Schools:

We are pleased to announce a new program within Milford Public Schools that gives all PK-12 students the opportunity to take a free weekly COVID-19 test while in school. This program will begin the week of January 31, 2022 and you will soon be notified of the test day assigned to your school.

For planning purposes, please complete the opt-in/consent form as soon as possible so that we can plan appropriately. Through our partnership with Project COVID DeteCT and Progressive Diagnostics, here are the highlights of this program:

● Each school will conduct the weekly COVID-19 testing program on the school’s assigned testing day.
● The test is free.
● Participation is completely voluntary. However, permission from a parent/guardian is required for a student to participate. Click here for the participation/consent form.
● The screening is non-invasive, as the test only requires a swab from the lower nostrils and should take less than 2 minutes.

Progressive Diagnostics will be our test/diagnostic provider. Test results will be provided within 24-48 hours to the parent/guardian, school, and CT Public Health Department.

Regular testing is a safe and effective way to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and keep our schools open for in-person learning. Many people with COVID-19, especially children, do not have symptoms but can still spread the virus, so regular screening of our students will help us find a positive case before it spreads to others.

If you would like to learn more about the screening program, please see Progressive’s Frequently Asked Questions document. We are pleased to be able to offer another ‘tool in the toolbox’ as we continue to strengthen the mitigation strategies we already have in place in Milford Public Schools. If you would like your child to be included in this free weekly screening program, please click here to complete the online consent form. If you have any questions, please contact your school directly. Thank you, as always, for your partnership.

Truly,

Anna Cutaia, Ed.D.
Superintendent
