MILFORD — District high school graduation dates are official.

The school board recently announced that Joseph A. Foran High School will hold its ceremony on June 17 and Jonathan Law High School will follow on June 20.

“We have a 181-day school year, and it is necessary that we hold school for 180 days,” Superintendent Ana Cutaia said. “The last day of school is Monday, June 20, due to the bad weather we’ve had this year.”

Cutaia said the Board of Education exchanges first and second high school graduates from year to year.

“Usually if the weather is bad on graduation day, we move the event from an outdoor event to an indoor event,” she said. “It was not possible last year because of COVID.”

However, if there is bad weather this year, Cutaia said graduations can again be indoors.

In 2021, Foran was expected to go first last year and Law was expected to go second.

“But because of the storm that was coming that night, Foran actually graduated the students after Law,” Cutaia said.

Cutaia’s proposal, presented to the board, was for Foran to graduate on Friday and for law seniors to graduate on Monday.

“Graduation time will be at 5:15 p.m.,” Cutaia said.
