NEW MILFORD – Schools in New Milford are planning to host a virtual parent forum on April 6 with Superintendent Alisha DiCorpo and Director of Health Lisa Morrissey, according to a letter sent to parents and guardians.
The meeting will be held via Zoom from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
The letter, dated April 1, suggests the meeting will cover parents’ concerns and questions regarding the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the region. Over the past three weeks, COVID cases in New Milford have increased from 35 cases per week to 97 and then to 141 cases last week, nearly quadrupling the number of cases.
The case rate is now 63 per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 33.9 last week.
“I am writing to let you know that we are not seeing transmission of COVID-19 in our schools and that the increase in cases is not due to the fact that we are opening schools to in-person learning,” writes DiCorpo.
Earlier this week, Morrissey pointed out that youth sports and daycare groups were major parts of the outbreak.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to share their questions in advance by emailing the Superintendent’s office. Questions will also be asked at the meeting, the letter said.
DiCorpo also says the district hopes to create an online dashboard for communications with parents and guardians to reduce the number of emails they receive. This technology would be implemented at all school sites, but is not yet operational.
DiCorpo ends the letter by reminding parents to wait for a negative test before sending children back to school and to “stay diligent.”
